Useful Tips on How to Achieve a Traditional Look for Your Kitchen
62
The traditional look is one that has never gone out of style in the field of interior design, especially in the kitchen. This could be attributed to the fact that there are so many people who are drawn to the simpler aspects of cooking and dining at home. Despite the popularity of modern and hi-tech gadgets for the kitchen, along with contemporary designs that come with these, there are still those who prefer the more traditional look. In fact, a cursory glance at most online kitchen suppliers will reveal that traditional looks and accessories still enjoy tremendous popularity among homeowners, including pieces of metal wall artwork such as wine racks, towel holders, etc.
Some factors that make this look so distinct and special are the overall design, color scheme, and equipment used. The right set of accessories also plays a key role in achieving a traditional look for the kitchen. The term “traditional” is very broad. It can be likened to the country look, vintage look, or even Tuscan-styled kitchens. Nevertheless, common ideas are present. The term itself implies simplicity, function, and something a little bit older. As such, you must incorporate items that evoke such ideas inside the kitchen in order to achieve this look. Here are a few tips on how to do just that:
Look for items that are both simply designed and functional.
In buying furniture for the kitchen, try to look for pieces that use simple materials and design such as a sturdy dining table or a dinette made of wood. This is one way of evoking a country look for the home. Other equipment and smaller items must also be something simple and functional for example, a wooden breadbox, an ornate wrought-iron wine rack, and the like. The act of using simple yet highly functional items as part of the décor will surely reinforce the traditional look.
Use decorative items that are made of either wood or iron or a combination of these.
In buying decorative items or accessories, keep an eye out for those made of wood or iron or a combination of these. As in the examples above, wrought-iron wine racks look much more traditional than custom-built wine coolers; or a wooden dinette with country-style cushions look much more traditional than one with a glass tabletop. Other accessories may include decorative metal wall decor , such as the popular metal wall plaques that proliferate in countryside kitchens.
Combine technology and traditional charm.
Of course, wanting to have a traditionally-styled kitchen does not mean that we have to sacrifice the convenience of modern technology. Thus, a great way of having a traditionally-styled, but well-equipped kitchen is to look for items that cleverly combine modern technology with old world charm. For example, manufacturers of refrigerators, freezers, and coolers offer products that feature the retro style.
Do remember that you do not have to go overboard. Going all out and purchasing all kitchen accessories made of iron or wood will not help you achieve the perfect look. The secret is to integrate key traditional pieces into your existing design. That way, you do not have to fully renovate your kitchen or spend a lot of money to achieve the look that you want.
