Soothing Color Palettes for a Master Bedroom Retreat

The master bedroom should be a place of rest and relaxation. Removing clutter and keeping the space neat is one of the first steps to doing that. If the room is organized and you are ready for a change, consider updating your color palette to include fresh, new colors that will both soothe and invigorate. Try the ideas below to create a room that you and your partner will both enjoy.

Simply Understated

Sometimes bedroom decorations, especially quilts and comforters, can be very busy and far from soothing. Instead of buying into the need for multiple patterns and styles, opt for a soothing palette of understated whites and creams. It may seem like a lot of work to keep a room decorated in such a color palette clean and white, but it can be done. Start by painting your walls a soft white as opposed to a sharp, glaring white that hurts your eyes. The soft white walls can be accented by a white or cream colored bedspread and linens. Dark wooden furniture offers a sophisticated accent to such a color scheme, while white furniture creates an even more soothing space. The curtains, floor coverings and accent pieces should also be done in simple whites and creams to provide the most soothing of atmospheres.

Pale Pink

Men may balk at the idea of a pink bedroom, but for a relaxing space, pink is one of the best color choices available. When used in a soft, warm tone, pink can make the room feel more intimate and attractive. Pair it with pale, dove grey or a cream color to add contrast and neutralize the femininity of pink. The key to using pink is not to overdue it and use it in excess. A little pink, paired with a neutral color can go a long way to providing the soothing look that you desire. If your spouse still is not pleased with a pink room, use a white or cream backdrop and infuse smaller doses pink in the space through fabrics, accessories and wall decor.

Tan

The use of tan in bedroom decor is innately soothing. The color evokes feelings of the outdoors and can be coupled with a variety of peaceful accent colors. Pair a light tan with a dark brown or a deep green for a rich, Zen-like look. When paired with a brighter, spring-like green, the feel of the room remains soothing, but has a bit more energy than it otherwise would. Tan can also be paired with navy blue or even a lighter blue for a more tailored look touched with serenity.

Creating a master bedroom that is soothing will help you not only to relax in the room, but it will help you sleep better. Use colors to your best advantage to create a space that reflects your personal style, while also giving you the calming atmosphere that you desire. To create focal points in the room, choose wall decor art, like framed art or indoor or outdoor metal wall sculptures, in contrasting or harmonizing colors.
