Fun Beach Accents for Any Home
54
Imagine it is cold and snowy or rainy outside; when the weather makes it impossible to go anywhere, many of us get the blahs during that particular season. We need things within our homes that remind us of what will be coming in just a few months, such as fun metal beach wall art and accents for any home or office space. Here are some ideas for each room in the house, in no particular order, which can be mixed and matched or used alone:
Seashell Variety
Most of us think about seashells when we think about the beach, but if you are not careful you could wind up with cheap, tacky accents that ruin the overall look you were hoping to achieve. There are many different types of seashells that make great additions to your decor though, from stylish nautilus shells to cute mollusks. It is just a matter of finding pieces that are fun and attractive without the look of an imitation piece.
For example, some retailers offer stained glass accents that have the shapes of seashells either pictured in the relief or shaped like the seashell. Nautilus shells are the most common choices for these types of pieces, and they are a fun and creative addition to any home, especially if you just want a small accent in an otherwise neutral space. You can add them to the front door, above a window, or as a mantelpiece focal point for a hint of the beach throughout your home.
Sand and Waves
The ocean itself can be a lot of fun as accents in the home in almost any room, such as landscapes with scenes of happy, vacationing families. For a fun approach, consider a great beach landscape that features someone getting buried in the sand or surrounded by funny sand sculptures; dolphin, seahorse or sea turtle wall decor can also add a whimsical touch. You can also create accents from your own family memories, such as a bedside table with framed prints of family vacations at the beach above it. The most fun accents like this should have something unique, such as a smiling child with ice cream all over his face or Dad chasing a beach umbrella into the surf.
Another fun idea for home accents deals with a more abstract approach to sand and waves, such as a clock that has been texturized to look like it is covered with sand. Waves could be represented by a wall art piece that is flat but glassy to look like cascading waves across the wall or above the fireplace.
Surfboards
The surfboard may not be the first thing that you think of when you want to add a fun beach accent to your home, primarily because they are big, bulky, and tend to be expensive. However, consider an accent such as a coffee table made from recycled surfboards or end tables made from a surfboard cut in half. It is a really fun idea and a great conversation starter for the family room or patio area. They can be a bit costly sometimes, depending on quality and retailer, although size may also play a factor.
