Entryway Decorating: Creative Ways to Decorate a Small Entryway
78
A grand foyer is a desirable feature of a home, but not every home has an entryway that is separate from the living quarters. Sometimes the entryway is nothing more than a small tiled or carpeted space in front of the door for putting on and taking off footwear and preparing to go in and out of the home. Even the smallest entryway can still look stylish and impressive. A small entryway can be decorated with impressive wall decor and accents that will make it look and feel like a separate area worthy of the finest artwork. Consider the following creative ways to decorate a small entryway, and transform a small area directly surrounding the door into a separate area that is sure to impress.
Create a Practical and Stylish Separation
A small entryway usually flows seamlessly into the living room, but it can be made to look and feel like a separate area with the addition of a small double-sided bookcase. Place a low-profile bookcase perpendicular to the entryway, and use the bookcase to display a stylish basket for dropping keys and other necessities. The bottom shelf can be used for storing footwear, and the other shelves can be used for displaying knickknacks and other stylish entryway accents.
Wall Mirrors
A beautiful high-quality framed wall mirror is ideal for decorating a wall next to the door in a small entryway. It will provide a place for last minute touchups, and it will add considerable style and dimension to the area. Select a high-quality framed mirror that reflects your personal taste and decorating style, and it will help transform a small area just inside the door into a space that appears somewhat larger and far more impressive.
Decorating with Wrought Iron Wall Decor
A wall adjacent to a small entryway is the ideal location for decorating with wrought iron wall decor. Select an intricate scrollwork piece to mount over the door or over a framed wall mirror or work of art. Wrought iron wall decor is available in many different shapes, styles, and sizes. A larger piece can be used as the focal point of the entryway instead of a mirror. It will make a grand first impression, even if the entryway is not grand in size.
Table Art Sculptures
If floor space is available below a wall mirror or work of art, consider decorating further with an impressive table art sculpture. Table art sculptures look rich and stylish, no matter the size of the entryway. Select a table art sculpture that matches the style and theme of the adjoining room. The decorating options are endless since table art sculptures come in countless subjects, styles, and sizes. Look for art that matches your personal preference and style, and display it in an open location on an entryway wall.
Decorating with Pedestals and Wall Shelves
When displaying a table art sculpture, consider decorating the entryway further with a grand pedestal or a stylish wall shelf. Pedestal options range from fine marble to inexpensive yet stylish plaster that can be painted to match any color or design. Place the pedestal near the wall, and top it with a fine sculpture that matches the style and theme of the room. The pedestal will highlight the art, and it will look outstanding.
Wall shelves are ideal for displaying small sculptures. Select a wall shelf that can be mounted several inches below a framed mirror or a work of wall art. Use the shelf to display a well-chosen sculpture. It will greatly enhance the appearance of the entryway, and along with the aforementioned suggestions, it will feel more like a separate space.

I've been trying to figure out a nice way to separate my living room from my door similar to how you describe in the Practical and Stylish Separation. I was wondering if you had any links to the kind of bookcase you mention.
Wow, loving your posts. This one has ample of tips I can surely use. Keep up the good work!
Relica, I have a small space just like you mentioned, and this hub gives me delightful ideas, thanks!
Can you tell me where to find the shelf/hook combination in the above picture?
Thanks!
Good suggestions, however, my entry way is 5X8 with 4 doorways 2 are double door sized! I was thinking of using a tin ceiling for interest and pale colored walls with ivory colored trim and tile floors. What do you think?
I simply love the wall unit in your photo! I googled your keywords and have not found anything as great. I have three boys in a small house with a small entry (which is devoid of furniture as I've not found anything I love). We have a closet on the L of the front door and the living room on the R. I need something that has storage and looks nice! Help.

I know, the entryways in some houses are exactly that - a transient tunnel where we take off our shoes and leave them there. Setting aside time to write a how-to-decorate piece for that neglected part of the house is a wonderful thing. Your hub is much appreciated. I'm into home improvement as well.
