Adding a Little Romance to the Bedroom
67
Adding a bit of romance to the bedroom is actually easier and less expensive than you might think. In most cases, it's simply a matter of using your creativity and finding ways to remove distractions from the room while enhancing or adding sensual details. The end result will be a room that will soothe your senses while adding a bit of excitement at the same time. If you'd like to transform your plain bedroom into a romantic oasis, here are some decorating tips to help get you started.
Add Romantic Lighting Options
Since the glare from a bright overhead bedroom light is certainly not romantic, one of the first issues you should address is the room's lighting options. Adding a dimmer switch to the overhead light can be a great place to start. For added convenience, get a switch that also provides a remote control, so that you can adjust the lighting without getting out of bed. In addition to the overhead lighting, add a few small lamps to the room. You can even use pink or peach colored bulbs in these lamps to add a romantic look. Candles are also an important part of adding romance to the bedroom. Create several groupings of candles around the room to create a nice ambiance. You can also use strategically placed mirrors to reflect the light from the candles, which will add a depth and sparkle. Choose scented candles to add a pleasant touch to the room's atmosphere.
Creating a Romantic Bed
Since the bed is the centerpiece and focal point of most bedrooms, it's important to add romantic details here as well. Choose plush and luxurious bedding in relaxing shades. White, cream, black, burgundy, apricot and bronze are all great colors to use if you want to add a romantic touch. Choose silky soft sheets made from cotton sateen to add a luxurious touch. Or, go all out and get satin or silk bed linens if desired. Add some pillows to the bed for added allure, focusing on those which have a sensual texture and interesting look. Velour, silk, or even faux fur can add a nice touch when used as accent fabrics. For an additional sense of romance, try creating a canopy bed effect. Even if you don't have a true canopy bed, you can create the illusion of one by attaching sheer fabric to the center of the wall over the head of the bed, letting it billow to the floor on either side. Or, attach hooks to the ceiling so that you can create a canopy effect by draping the fabric around the bed.
Romantic Decorating Details
Once you've enhanced the room's lighting and the bed, you can turn your attention to the smaller details. Choose romantic window treatments that also provide an adequate amount of privacy. Choose a few beautiful pieces of art for the room, such as a pottery metal sculpture, framed painting or wrought iron scroll grille. A bouquet of freshly cut flowers, a beautiful bowl of deliciously scented potpourri, a bottle of champagne and dish of exotic chocolates will add the finishing touches to your romantic bedroom.
