A Touch of Fun for the Home Office

Many couples are choosing to integrate a bit of fun inside of the functional home office. Often a person will get bored and burnt out by working in a boring office, even at home, day after day with nothing fun around them and doing the same thing day after day. Incorporating fun colors, themes, and functional decor items can both lighten the atmosphere in the home office and the mood of the person working within the room.

Bright Lights and Colors

The basis for a fun home office begins with the color of paint upon the walls. A color that is overly dull, dark, or dingy may cause the room to resemble the color of the wall. A room with a bright, cheerful color on the wall will serve as motivation for spending time in the home office and actually making time spent there both fun and enjoyable. Colors such as yellow, red, purple, and blue are all fitting for a home office. Red and purple work to increase a person’s level of creativity, light shades of blue tend to calm the emotions, while yellow and some shades of green give the individual a cheerful feeling. Of course, walls painted in a neutral tone can be brightened up with abstract metal wall sculpture or fun beach metal wall decor in brighter colors. This also makes it easy to change color palettes or themes later on.

Lighting in the room needs to be as close to natural as possible, using the bright lights offered from windows as much as possible. High efficiency light bulbs can also mimic the appearance of daylight in a room with minimal natural light. Window treatments should be light enough to allow natural light through or else be able to be opened during the day to allow the light through. Home office lighting can be both functional and decorative. If the room is situated in a portion of the house that is naturally warm in the summer, a decorative ceiling fan can be a useful form of lighting.

Fun with Fabrics, Shapes, and Decor

Many home offices offer the same boring fabrics, basic shapes, and bland shelving units. Fabrics that have fun colors, prints, and textures bring both depth and fun into the home office. Recovering an office chair and making personalized window treatments that coordinate bring unity into the office as well as creating a sense of balance into the room. Fun fabrics can also become useful objects when made into message boards, laptop cases, and dust covers for books. Fabrics can also be made into curtains to use on ordinary book shelves to hide office supplies and other unsightly objects from sight.

Wall decor can bring in both fun colors as well as fun shapes, especially modern wall decor. Modern wall decor ties in well to a cheerful, fun home office and can unite many different colors used in a single room. Some examples of fun decorative yet useful objects for the home office include lava lamps, mood lamps, and many different types of digital clocks. Standard office supplies can be useful in bringing about fun colors and a touch of cheer to any home office by purchasing or creating fun shaped tape dispensers, pen and pencil holders, bulletin boards, and other office necessities.
